Internship: Boarder Master Boarder Mistress
Cowan House Co-educational Preparatory School educates boys and girls from Grade RRR to Grade 7. Our 73 year old school has a strong Christian ethos and is located in the village of Hilton in the KZN Midlands.
Preference will be given to applicants currently be working towards a career in teaching in the Pre-primary, Foundation, or Intermediate Phase and studying through UNISA or other recognised correspondence learning institutions.
Intermediate Phase Intern
The successful candidate will:
- Be studying in 2022 towards a formal teaching qualification (B Ed/PGCE) in the Intermediate phase of education.
- Be flexible to assist in any aspect of teaching, and be willing to do two extra-mural activities per week.
- Be open to being mentored and coached in order to develop pedagogy skills and competencies.
- Have a high level of competency in ICT and be willing to learn about Google Apps for Education, Smartboards and iPads.
- Learn how to integrate technology into the curriculum by using various electronic media in the classroom.
- Be able to work in an inclusive environment.
- Receive a contract to be an intern with St Mary’s for a year.
Foundation, Intermediate and Senior Phase Internships
The successful candidate should:
- be registered, or eligible to register, for a part-time degree in education, or a part-time PGCE or Honours course
- be willing to work in the Foundation Phase (Grade 3), Intermediate Phase (Grades 4 – 6) or the Senior Phase (Grade 7)
- Display excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Be passionate about teaching and about boys’ education
- Be passionate about the importance of creativity in the curriculum
- Be innovative and comfortable using technology in the classroom, and in an online environment
- Be a lifelong learner, constantly open to learning about new trends in education
- Be able to interact positively with parents
- Be willing to be involved in extramural activities
- Be able to develop and sustain new ideas and work co-operatively in a team
- Have an appreciation of the traditions and Anglican ethos of the school
Junior Primary Student Intern
Cordwalles requires the services of:
- A motivated and enthusiastic student teacher,
- With a love for children.
- The candidate should ideally be studying towards a FOUNDATION PHASE qualification.
- The successful candidate will be required to work closely with teaching staff in the classrooms for an average of 16 hours per week and also assist with Boarding House duties once a week.
Foundation Phase Internship
Requirements
- A valid National Senior Certificate with admission for degree purposes; APS score of 26 minimum
- English as a Home Language = 60% or English as First Additional Language = 70%
- Maths Literacy = 55% or Maths = 50%
- Preferably under the age of 25
- Internship is only for those who have no previous tertiary qualification
- Demonstrate financial need
