United Nations Essay Competition 2024/2025 Application Form
The United Nations isn’t only responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security, or friendly relations among nations, but the family equally takes the initiative of helping students and young people discover their potential. Thus, there are a series of contests that the United Nations employs to assist young people in raising funds and living happily.
From essay competitions, short story writing, and content creation to poetry, the United Nations family is dedicated to solving the financial needs of the youths across the globe. During the United Nations Essay Competition for the 2022/2023 edition, The United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, the Under-Secretary-General, and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on the Commemoration of the United Nations’ 75th Anniversary and Devex announced the launch of an Essay Competition for the best essay by a young person on the topic ‘The Future We Want, The UN We Need. However, speculations are that we’ll be having another essay competition coming up soon and youths must be ready to seize their moments.
Requirements
Below are the requirements that are usually required for entry into the United Nations essay competition.
- Participants must be between the ages of 15 and 29.
- Essays must answer the question by making a case, analyzing the situation, and building a case based on researched arguments and facts.
- Essays may be submitted in English only.
- Entries must be no longer than 800 words.
- Participants must have written the essay by themselves. Only individual entries are admitted, and no teams are allowed to take part in the competition.
Criteria For Qualifications
The United Nations select the best essay from the long list of entry by using the following criteria;
- Quality of the content: This includes the ability of the writer to argue reasonably, novelty, and depth. The family also takes into consideration any entrant whose native language is not English.
- The essay will be graded according to the writer’s ability to stick to instructions.
Contestants should note that each essay is usually assessed by a first panel composed of UN staff members who will shortlist 10 essays.
The shortlisted 10 essays will be reviewed and graded by a high-level selection panel. Then the final winner will be selected by a high-level selection panel and the winner will be announced on the occasion of International Youth Day. The winner will be invited virtually to take part in the UN’s Commemoration events in New York.
Prizes To Be Won
- The names of the 3 finalists will be published on the official page of the competition organizers.
- The final winner’s essay will be published on the official page of the competition and promoted via the United Nations platforms and by Devex.
- The winner will (as stated earlier), be invited to take part in the UN Commemoration events which will take place virtually.
Entry Rules
- Entries must be submitted as plaintext in the body of an email addressed to youthenvoy@un.org, with the topic, theme, or subject matter.
- Entries must not be longer than 800 words depending on the number of words designated.
- Each entrant is advised to retain a copy of his/her entry.
- All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not be a copyrighted work of any other party.
- Entries must not contain defamatory, obscene, offensive, or any other unsuitable material.
- Entries must be suitable to be published for audiences of all ages.
