When Does SOPHAS Application Open For 2024/2025?
I bet you’ve never heard of SOPHAS before, I only spoke to a friend some weeks ago about it and I realized there’re a lot of folks who should be applying and fostering their careers, but they’re unaware of the steps to take to arrive at Z.
The Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) is the Centralized Application Service (CAS) designed for students who wish to apply to schools, degrees, and public health programs.
If you’re in this category, you can apply by selecting any of the programs you wish to apply for, then go ahead to submit an application that has all your documents in it. After submission, your application and the documents sent will go through a verification route before it is delivered to your selected program(s).
Application Fee for SOPHAS
SOPHAS charges $145 for the first program you apply to and $55 for each additional program. There are assistance programs available to help reduce the cost of your application. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for these opportunities early.
Other fees you could be charged for this service include the number of universities you will apply to, and this is usually on a sliding scale, as shown below:
- One school: $120
- Two schools: $165
- Three schools: $210
- Four schools: $255
- Five schools: $300
Applicants can also apply for fee waivers, and they’re three types of fee waivers which are;
- Financial-based
- Service-based
- International-based
Candidates must equally request a waiver before submitting their applications, and note that each of the three types of waiver has its different terms of application.
Requirements to Apply for SOPHAS
To apply to SOPHAS, you need the following:
- Three letters of recommendation from three different recommenders
- All US coursework taken
- All official GRE, PCAT, and MCAT scores
- CV or resume
- Statement of purpose/objective
- Official transcripts
- Enter all universities you have attended.
Application Date for 2024 Academic Session
Applicants interested in applying for entry in the 2024-2025 Academic Year will be able to access the application for admission in September 2023.
How To Apply
To be considered for admission, the applicant’s application must have a SOPHAS status of “verified” in SOPHAS with all application requirements received by SOPHAS.
Applicants who are waiting for their three letters of recommendation, official transcripts, WES credential evaluation, or official test score reports to be received by SOPHAS can e-submit their application to SOPHAS.
Thus, be sure to schedule your test date with enough time for your test to be scored and your official score report to be delivered and matched to your application in SOPHAS.
These items will automatically be added to your application as they are received by SOPHAS and your application will progress more quickly through the SOPHAS system if it has already been e-submitted.
To this note, applicants should know that official score reports require several weeks from the test date (or request date) until they are posted to an application in SOPHAS:
- TOEFL: about 16 business days
- GRE: about 12 to 18 business days
- MCAT: about 35 business days
The GRE/MCAT requirement is waived for Fall 2023 applicants. Test scores are optional and applicants may self-report their scores in SOPHAS.
To ensure the quickest delivery of official test scores to your application in SOPHAS, request a test score report at the time you take the test.
- TOEFL institution code: 5688
- GRE institution code: 0111
- MCAT institution code: SOPHAS
The GRE/MCAT requirement is waived for Fall 2023 applicants. Test scores are optional and applicants may self-report their scores in SOPHAS.
Nonetheless, submission doesn’t entail success; you need to check your status at intervals until you’ve been verified.
Applicants should note that each application is considered active until the last day of each application cycle, August 5, after which SOPHAS will be shut down for about four weeks. The downside to this is that most application information is not often carried over into the next cycle.
