How To Apply for 2021 YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop

The purpose of YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop is to expand participants’ understanding of opportunities and risks of smart cities, as well as to learn from best practices around the world.

The ultimate aim is to foster a strong network among participants and to encourage greater involvement from young leaders, civil society, and SMEs in smart city development, while increasing capacity of future leaders to develop sustainable solutions to urbanization challenges in the region, using digital and other tools.

Benefits

The YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop provides:

  • Round trip economy class air ticket or local transportation from hometown to Bangkok, Thailand;
  • Accommodation in a twin room (shared with YSEALI participants) during the workshop dates;
  • Meals which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the workshop;
  • Round trip of transportation from Suvarnabhumi or Don Muang International Airport to the workshop venue;
  • Sim card and insurance during the workshop;
  • No registration and activity fee required.

Eligibility

Applicant must be:

  • YSEALI Member (Not a member yet? Join here!)
  • Ages between 20 – 35 (at the time of application and workshop);
  • Citizen of one of the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam;
  • Currently residing in one of the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English;
  • Will commit to a minimum of 36 hours of online sessions from the YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop’s agenda;
  • Be able to participate in all 4 days of the workshop during October 28-31, 2021, in Bangkok (TBD);
  • Will commit to a minimum of 36 hours of online sessions from the YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop’s agenda;

Other Requirements

  • Applicant should have demonstrable interest and relevant experience, whether through paid employment, volunteer work, or coursework, and who show promise in becoming socially active in effecting change in their home communities.
  • Participants could be urban planners, engineers, policymakers, NGO/community leaders, municipal officials, academics, or other professionals involved in issues such as smart growth, deployment of new technologies, housing, and economic development.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students pursuing fields related to science, engineering, urban planning, and policymaking will also be considered.

  • Essay: Digital technologies projects essay questions in no more than 250 words/each question Participants will be asked to outline a project related to digital technologies that would help improve their communities. These projects could include events or activities that have a direct positive impact on the built, virtual, or business environments, that seek to improve policy, practice, and/or public discourse about governance and transparency, the economy, and equitable and sustainable development, which may require support for an extended period of time to have valuable societal impact.
