The Students For A Better Future (SBF) offers Scholarships to High School Students in Cape Town. So, here is an opportunity for you to try your luck.

SBF gives students with academic promise, character, and grit the opportunity to excel in South Africa’s best high schools, universities and academic institutions through comprehensive scholarships, and to ultimately embark on a dynamic career path and a fulfilling life journey.

SBF manages two distinct scholarships, the second being the programme in partnership with Groote Schuur High School where a selection of the best candidates from our sister-organisation, the Disa Primary School in Hout Bay, are placed for their high school careers.

Students For A Better Future Scholarship Criteria

Every year, SBF reaches out to primary schools across the Cape Town Metropole to identify the top-achieving learners.

For learners to apply, they must:

  • Grade 6 in 2022
  • Born between 1 Jan 2010 and Dec 2010 (incl.)
  • Min 60% Aggregate in Gr. 5 Final exams
  • Min 60% for Maths in Gr. 5 Final exams
  • Min 60% for English in Gr. 5 Final exams
  • Min 60% Aggregate in Gr. 6 Term 2 assessments
  • Min 60% for Maths Gr. 6 Term 2 assessments
  • Min 60% for Eng Gr. 6 Term 2 assessments
  • Demonstrate financial need: Household income not more than R17 000 (with 1 child), R20 000 (with 2 children), R23 000 (with 3 or more children)
  • Live within 25km of the SBF Office in Newlands.

Students For A Better Future Scholarship Documents Required

  • Grade 5 Final Report
  • Grade 6 Term 1 Report
  • Applicant’s Birth Certificate
  • Prescribed Candidate Essay (350 words)
  • Proof of study visa if not South African
  • Both parents’/guardian’s ID copies with valid visa / proof residency if not South African
  • Both parents’/guardian’s proof of income (most recent payslip/employment letter/unemployment affidavit/self-employment affidavit/proof of SASSA grant)
