Re-enlistment of 400 former members in the South African Police Service for the capacitation of the Detective Services: South African Police Service Act, 1995: Band A (Constable) To Band B1 (Warrant Officer)

The posts contained in this advertisement are earmarked for the capacitation of the detective environment and successful candidates will be re-enlisted in the ranks they previously held (Constable, Sergeant, and Warrant Officer only) in the South African Police Service.

All successful former members will be placed in Detective Services, irrespective of the environment that he/she served previously in the South African Police Service.

Requirements (Constable, Sergeant or Warrant Officer):

Former members must:-

  • Not be older than 55 years of age on the closing date of the advertisement;
  • Have been appointed as a member of the South African Police Service in terms of the Police Service Act 68, 1995, on the ranks of Constable, Sergeant and Warrant Officer only;
  • Have successfully completed basic police training;
  • Have a good disciplinary and attendance record during their former employment in the South African Police Service;
  • Be in possession of at least a Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) or higher qualification;
  • Have at least a valid light motor vehicle license (code B);
  • Be a South African citizen of which documentary proof must be furnished;
  • Be proficient in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English;
  • Submit himself or herself to a medical examination as determined by the National Commissioner;
  • Undergo a psychological assessment as determined by the National Commissioner and be found to comply with the profile of a police official;
  • Not have any tattoo marks which will be visible and irreconcilable with the objectives of the Service;
  • Have no previous criminal convictions, and/or pending criminal, disciplinary cases, and such person shall allow his or her fingerprints to be taken and allow background enquiries to be made;
  • Not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm;
  • Be prepared to be deployed based on the needs of the Service which may include having to relocate at one’s own expense and or to accept a post away from one’s current place of residence that could result in reasonable travelling; Not be involved in any business or activity that will be in conflict of interest with the integrity of the Service;
  • Be willing to undergo a refresher course or any other training as determined by the National Commissioner Successful candidates who do not have experience / formal detective training will be subjected to three months training immediately after appointment;
  • Successful applicants for appointment will be vetted in terms of Chapter 7, Part 2 of the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act no 38 of 2005) or the National Sex Offenders Register [section 42 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act no 32 of 2007)] A candidate whose particulars appear in either the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment to that post; and
  • Candidates are expected to disclose if he/she is a respondent in an interim or final protection order in terms of the Domestic Violence Act, 1998 (Act no 116 of 1998) or Protection from Harassment Act, 2011 (Act No 17 of 2011), and may be disqualified from appointment to that post.

Applications from former members who left the Service under any of the following circumstances will not be considered.

  • Reached retirement age (early retirement or compulsory retirement age);
  • Have been dishonourably discharged and/or dismissed from the Service;
  • Left the Service pending the finalization of a disciplinary enquiry and/or criminal proceedings;
  • Left the Public Service with a severance package; and
  • Left the Service due to ill-health retirement / medical boarding.

General

  • Only the official application form (available on the SAPS website (www.saps.gov.za) and at SAPS Police Stations) will be accepted The Z83 previously utilized will no longer be accepted All instructions on the application form must be adhered to Failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application The SAPS application forms can also be obtained from any SAPS Recruitment Office within the South African Police Service.
  • The post particulars and reference number of the post must be correctly specified on the application form.
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae, as well as uncertified copies of an applicant’s ID, Senior Certificate and all educational qualifications obtained, service certificates of previous employers stating the occupation, proof of relevant experience in the field of the post and motor vehicle driver’s license, must be submitted together with the application form.
  • Original documentation of short-listed candidates must be produced during the selection process as requested Qualifications and driver’s licences submitted will be subjected to verification checking with the relevant institutions If a candidate is short-listed, it will be expected of him/her to undergo a personal interview.
  • Reference checking will be conducted on all short-listed applicants.
  • Late applications will not be accepted or considered. If a candidate is short-listed, it can be expected of him/her to undergo a personal interview as well as a practical assessment Reference checking will be conducted on all short-listed candidates.
  • Short-listed candidates for appointment to certain identified posts, will be vetted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No 32 of 2007) and the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005).
  • A candidate whose particulars appear in either the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register will be disqualified from appointment to that post All short-listed candidates will be subjected to fingerprint screening.
  • Correspondence will be conducted with successful candidates only. If you have not been contacted within 3 months after the closing date of this advertisement, please accept that your application was unsuccessful.
  • Participation in the process does not institute any entitlement to be appointed.
  • The National Commissioner is under no obligation to re-enlist former members who so apply, and similarly, no former member of the South African
  • Police Service has a right to be re-enlisted on the basis of being formerly employed.
  • The National Commissioner may, at any given time discontinue this process.
