We are recruiting to fill the positions of:

Job Title: Business Development Manager (BDM)

Location: Yaba, Lagos
Sector: Financial Services
Reporting Line: Director, Business Development

About The Role

  • Reporting to the Director, Business Development, the Business Development Manager will be primarily responsible for managing the Business Development team at Paga and supervising the junior team members.
  • BDM will also directly manage relationships with key partners, to grow the company’s business and to ensure that clients’ needs are met.

  • Expand the Business Development team. Focus on initiating new partnerships and strengthening existing relationships with partners around the world.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Management of Business Development Team:

  • Providing leadership and supervision to the Account Managers and other members of the Business Development department, and representing the Company as needed in-line with Company polices
  • Working with other units at the Company to define revenue targets and other performance goals for Business Development
  • Developing ideas and leading the team to pursue new business opportunities for the Company in Africa and beyond
  • Providing and communicating Business Development team status updates to upper management on a weekly basis

Client/Stakeholder Management:

  • Ensuring that clients and partners have 24/7 access to a Company Account Manager to address their requests or issues
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with public sector and private sector clients to ensure that relevant parties are informed of the Company’s plans and services
  • Engaging with regulators and other stakeholders on behalf of the Company
  • Ensuring that client enquiries are screened and channeled to the correct unit and responded to
  • Ensuring communication of customer needs and expectations between the Company and the client and between units in the Company
  • Ensuring liaison with other departments as appropriate in relation to proposals, projects, legal, customer support, finance, marketing, or other issues
  • Understanding customer needs and assisting in the development of project solutions that satisfy those requirements and provide new opportunities for the Company
  • Interacting with Senior Management of client organizations, professionally and socially, to maintain and grow relationships
  • Ensuring pre-qualification of the Company with existing and potential customers (including government and public sector agencies) to leave Company in a position to bid for projects of interest
  • Carrying out risk identification, profit potential and analysis for business targets
  • Managing tender submissions, including liaison with other units within the Company on submission of bid documents
  • Providing inputs to management for developing capabilities in new areas of strategic value
  • Gathering and analysing market intelligence for new projects and opportunities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Business Development or Sales function, including international experience or dealing with global clients
  • Optional: Master’s in business administration (MBA) or other graduate degree

Job-specific Skills and Requirements:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills
  • Resourcefulness and self-motivation, with the ability to perform with minimal supervision
  • Well-organized, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experienced in development of business processes, models and plans, including basic financial analysis in Excel
  • Exceptional market/customer awareness and networking skills – including proven track record of managing relationships with major operators in Nigeria
  • Good commercial sense to be manage contractual and financial conditions in contracts and tenders
  • Confidentiality and the highest ethical standards must be maintained in all activities
  • Willingness/ability to travel within and outside Nigeria on business
  • The BDM will be required to provide assistance to the Company in a wide range of areas, including duties not directly related to his/her area of experience or expertise, in which case proper instruction will be provided by the Company.

About the Role

  • Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the Account Manager will be responsible for managing relationships with key partners, to grow the Company’s business and to ensure that clients’ needs are met.

Responsibilities And Tasks
Client/Stakeholder Management:

  • Managing key account relationships to on-board new deal/projects and manage existing business for high performance; this includes serving as the primary Account Manager and point person for a portfolio of clients
  • Collaborating with the Business Development Manager and other Account Managers to achieve team goals, and also representing the department as needed in line with Company polices
  • Performing research, developing ideas and creating new business opportunities for the Company
  • Designing and building reports to communicate ideas and status updates to senior management
  • Organizing materials and information for tender submissions, including liaison with other units within the Company on submission of bid documents
  • Providing inputs to management for developing capabilities in new areas of strategic value
  • Communicating with cohorts in client and potential client organizations, professionally and socially (where appropriate), to maintain relationships with clients

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Business Development or Sales function

Job-specific Skills and Requirements:

  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Resourcefulness and self-motivation, with the ability to perform with minimal supervision
  • Well-organized, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional market/customer awareness and networking skills
  • Strong proficiency in use of business email and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experienced in development of business processes, models, and plans, including basic financial analysis in Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Adaptability, ability to work in a team environment
  • Confidentiality and the highest ethical standards must be maintained in all activities
  • Willingness/ability to travel within and outside Nigeria on business
  • The Account Manager will be required to provide assistance to the Company in a wide range of areas, including duties not directly related to his/her area of experience or expertise, in which case proper instruction will be provided by the Company.
