NRT was established as a shared resource to help build and develop community conservancies, which are best positioned to enhance people’s lives, build peace and conserve the natural environment.

We are recruiting to fill the positions below;

Job Title: Kaptuya Community Conservancy Manager

Employment Type: Full Time

Qualification: BA/BSc/HND

Experience: 3 Years

Location: Nairobi

Job Field: NGO/Non-Profit

Kaptuya Community is one of the 43 member conservancies under the umbrella organization of The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) a non–profit umbrella organization that supports 43–member Community Conservancies across northern and coastal Kenya with fundraising, technical support, governance advice and training, and security; http://www.nrt–kenya.org.

Purpose of the position:

Reporting to the Conservancy Board and with a close working relationship with the NRT team, County government and other development partners the Conservancy Manager will be responsible for both strategic and operational support to the conservancy community. The Manager will be responsible for managing the conservancy and developing it to a self–sustaining model that integrates wildlife conservation, environmental conservation, community enterprises and contributes to improvement of the community livelihoods.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Natural Resource Management or Community Development.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively
  • A strong drive for results with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of team; to work with a diversity of stakeholders and communities; and to effectively coordinate, lead and motivate a multidisciplinary staff.
  • In–depth knowledge and demonstrated commitment to wildlife conservation and natural resource management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in remote areas, in cross–cultural situations, with diverse economic and professional background.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications (English and Kiswahili)
  • Computer literacy especially in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power point and E–mail.
  • A firm understanding of pastoralist customary livestock practices and community engagement processes.

Job Title: Ruko Community Conservancy Driver

Employment Type: Full Time

Qualification: BA/BSc/HND

Experience: 5 Years

Location: Nairobi

Job Field: NGO/Non-Profit

Purpose of the position:

Reporting to the Manager, the driver will have the overall responsibility of offering both administrative and logistical support to the Ruko Community to help in achieving set targets and objectives. Specifically, the driver will be required to:

Drivers Responsibilities:

  • Provide logistical support to all conservancy activities such as wildlife conservation, livestock programs, security operation and other community development programs.
  • Driving team members to and from their activities as assigned.
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of vehicles and tools assigned to them.
  • Ensuring safety of passengers/property in the vehicle.
  • Ensuring valid road licenses are in place.
  • Have thorough understanding of motor vehicles engine functionality.
  • The driver should be competent at checking the vehicle for problems and performing pre/post journey maintenance task.
  • Ensure full compliance to the traffic laws, regulations, and code.
  • Promoting positive corporate image of the Trust.
  • Proper recording of mileage booklet.
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the NRT management.

Drivers Requirements:

  • Holder of a “BCED” class with PSV certificate.
  • Possess over five years post training experience.
  • Holder of a KCSE D+ or O-Level certificate.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Physically fit and emotionally resilient
  • Willing to work longer hours and in remote areas of operation
  • Honest, team player and one who enjoys community work.
  • Mechanics training will be an added advantage.
