Job Title: Plant Operator III

Job Type: Full Time

Qualification: BA/BSc/HND

Location: Kericho

Job Field: Agriculture / Agro-Allied

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry and training Grade for Plant Operators.

  • Operating machines of; difficult ‘rating’ C,
  • Assisting machine attendance in identifying possible breakdowns;
  • Liaising with mechanics for servicing; making daily and weekly oil checks; and
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the plants.

Requirements for appointment

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade D (Plain)or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • A valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s)
  • Have passed the suitability test for plant operators Grade III conducted by the Ministry of Roads and Public Works;
  • Occupational Trade Tests III/II/I for Plant Operators conducted by the Ministry of Roads and Public Works.
  • First Aids Certificate course lasting not less than one(1) week from St John Ambulance or the Kenya Institute of Highways and Technology(KIHBT) or any other recognized institution;
  • Possess a valid Driving License free from current endorsements for class(es) of machine(s) that one may be required to operate;
  • Refresher course for Plant Operator lasting  not less than one (1) week within every three (3) yeas at Kenya Institute of Highways and Technology(KIHBT) or any other recognized institution;
  • Any other recognized qualifications as may be adjudged to be equivalent by the permanent secretary, Ministry of state for Public Service.

Job Title: Chief Superintending Engineer (Transport)

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level may be deployed as a head of Transport unit at Headquarters or Sub-County.   
The officer will be responsible to the Principal Superintending Engineer for work programmes in all the functional areas and training and development of staff under him/her.
The duties and responsibilities at the Headquarters and Sub-county level will include handling all transport related matters:

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Served in the grade of Senior Superintending Engineer (Transport) or comparable and relevant position in the Public service for at least three (3) years;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Be registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB);
  • Current valid annual Practicing license from the Engineers Registration, Board of Kenya;
  • Corporate membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
  • Attended a Strategic Leadership Development Course lasting not less than Six (6)   weeks from a recognized Institution; and
  • demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of structural programmes including supervision of professional and technical staff; and shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

The Director of Transport is the head of the transport division and is responsible to the Chief Officer, Roads, Transport and Public Works for all activities of the Division comprising:

  • Maintenance and research, design and development, and administration and planning. Responsibility involves:
  • Preparation   and implementation of the department’s performance management system and contracts;
  • Team building;
  • Overseeing the financial and asset management issues of the division; 
  • Instituting operational accountability; 
  • Securing and managing financial support for development plans and overall supervision, training and development of division staff.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Served in the grade of Chief Superintending Engineer (Transport) or comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) year;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB);
  • Current valid annual Practicing license from the Engineers Registration, Board of Kenya;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Roads Engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized Institution; an
  • Been Registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB) as a Graduate Engineer.

  • Overseeing the financial and asset management issues of the division; 
  • Instituting operational accountability; 
  • Securing and managing financial support for development plans and overall supervision, training and development of division staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level may be deployed as a head of a unit at Headquarters or as a Sub-County Structural Engineer.   
 
The officer will be responsible to the Principal Superintending Engineer for work programmes in all the functional areas and training and development of staff under him/her.

The duties and responsibilities include the following: –

  • Design, detailing and site supervision of structures in various materials and forms of construction; 
  • Checking   and   monitoring   projects designed by consulting engineers; 
  • Directing and controlling of engineers and Structural Assistants working in the specific project.
  • Supervision of structural, civil and marine works prepared by the   Department   and   consulting   engineers;  
  • Enforcement of specifications, compliance with engineers’ drawings, conditions of contract, quality control, approval and measurement of completed works, progress reports and guidance of Sub-County structural engineers on all technical aspects of the work.
  • Supervision and control of applied research projects pertaining to structural materials, foundations, structural elements, and constructional techniques, marine and building technology.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Served in the grade of Senior Superintending Engineer (Structural) or comparable and relevant position in the Public service for at least three (3) years;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB);
  • Current valid annual Practicing license from the Engineers Registration, Board of Kenya;
  • Corporate membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
  • Attended a Strategic Leadership Development Course lasting not less than, Six (6) weeks from a recognized Institution;
  • Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability required for effective planning, direction, control and coordination of structural and civil engineering  development programmes;
