About Kenya Institute Of Special Education

Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is a semi-autonomous government agency of the Ministry of Education, Kenya. It was established through Legal Notice No. 17 of 14th February 1986.

Kenya Institute Of Special Education Admission Requirements

If you want to be part of the prestigious Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) and you want to pursue a Certificate course, you must have a minimum of C- with specific qualifications in cluster subjects in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE). For Diploma programmes, you must have attained a minimum of C with specific qualifications in cluster subjects.

General Admission Requirements

To be eligible for certificate courses candidates must be teachers, parents, social workers, caregivers paramedics or other interested persons with an O-level of education.

To be eligible for the Diploma Course in Special Needs Education (SNE) course, the applicant may be of any age provided that he/she possesses any one of the following qualifications:

  • Holder of P1 Teacher Training Certificate by training with a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Holder of P1 Teacher Certificate through promotion by the Ministry of Education after passing through the Teacher Proficiency Course (TPC) course.
  • Holder of Certificate Course in ECDE from KNEC or Ministry of Education DICECE certificate with at least D+ in KCSE or its equivalent and at least 2 years teaching experience.
