Kenton College Preparatory School History

Kenton Preparatory School was established in January 1924 at Kijabe. The school’s original owner, Finlay Cramb, started the learning institution in an empty German sanitorium and fast transformed it into one of the best learning institutions in Kenya. However, it wasn’t until 1934 that the school’s original structures, which stand until today, were built.

Kenton School was built on open land in Kileleshwa, five kilometres from Nairobi City centre. Later, the learning institution moved to reopen at its current location in January 1935.

One of the most interesting things about Kenton is that it was a military headquarters during World War II. During this time, learners were forced to relocate to Westpark Hotel at Ngong. However, everything resumed once the war ended, including its reinstatement as the primary learning centre for all students.

The school underwent a massive transformation over the years, including getting a new headmaster, Rev Cyril Banks. He retired in 1966, leaving solid links between the school and well-known schools in Britain. Rev. Roy Stagg took the headmaster role in 1966 and ran it for the next 14 years.

The learning institution had further headmaster replacements in 1980 and 1991. During this period, Kenton School increased its capacity to 200 boys. Mr. Searle, who took over in 1991, made radical alterations, including making the school mixed. And this created an opportunity for expansion.

Today, Kenton College Preparatory School is one of the ten IAPS Preparatory Schools in Kenya and among the top 500 in the world.

What curriculum does Kenton School Nairobi abide by? Kenton School offers National Curriculum for England or the English National Curriculum for its students. This way, the school is profound and well-balanced in academics, SEN, music, design, technology, sports, and social graces.

Junior School Curriculum

Under the English National Curriculum, Kenton College Preparatory School follows a particular program to impart knowledge to all pupils.

Mornings

All mornings are split into nine periods of 30 minutes each. And the following subjects are taught during this time:

However, they may get special teachers to get them through certain subjects like Music, P.E., Kiswahili, R.S., French, and I.C.T.

Before joining Kenton College Preparatory School, the headmaster must confirm whether the pupil fits the criteria. And the first thing to check is whether they are within the respective age bands. Therefore, parents ought to provide the following details:

• Full Names, Date of Birth, and Gender of the child.
• Nationality.
• Details of the current school the child is attending.
• Names and contact details of the parents (email address and cell numbers).
• Details if a previous application has been made, including one for another child.
• A parents (ONLY) meeting with the headmistress and a tour of the school.

After everything is received and processed, the application process starts with the following:

• Filling in a registration form after paying Ksh.15,000 fee.
• Assessments.
• Communication of assessment results.
• If accepted, you have to pay a non-refundable fee of Ksh.150,000.

Pupils looking to join year 2 in September 2021 must be born between September 1, 2014, and August 31, 2015. The following is the admission age bracket for year 2 from 2020 to 2025.
