About GRE

Types Of GRE

There are two types of GRE tests;

1. General Test: The General test can be attempted as a computer-based test and is for all students from all universities. Scholarships are offered through this test and it is one of the most required in all universities. You’ll be tested on Verbal reasoning, Quantitative reasoning, and Analytical writing. These questions are general questions that test your ability to think critically, your mathematical skills, and your writing techniques.

2. Subject Test: While the general test measures an individual’s general knowledge, the GRE subject test measures your abilities in specific courses like Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, English Literature, and Psychology. This test is accepted by many graduate and business schools all over the globe and is a computer-based exam with multiple-choice questions.

The GRE Exam has a different number of MCQs depending upon the subject example, the GRE Subject test for Biology has 190 MCQs in total with questions that only apply to the course.

Eligibility

There are no eligibility criteria for GRE exams yet but candidates must apply the rules of the game. Age, educational background, and course of study can’t hinder you from taking the test but you’ll have to check with your university to know their eligibility criteria.

GRE Exams Fee

GRE Exam Fee for the general test is $213 whereas for GRE fee for the subject tests is $150.

GRE Cancellation Fee

What’s good is, there are no additional fees for canceling a GRE exam but you may never receive a refund, even if you cancel your exam really early. Though you can receive a 50% refund ($102.50) by canceling the GRE at least four days before your test date.

GRE Rescheduling Fee

The GRE rescheduling fee is US$50 and rescheduling must be done not later than four days before your test date or your test fee will be forfeited. For example, the deadline to reschedule a Saturday appointment is Tuesday. The fee to reschedule your test registration is US$50.

How To Register For GRE

  4. Set up your Username and Password

  6. Select GRE exam

On September 13, 2021, October 25, 2021, and April 11, 2022, there will be two Monday tests.

GRE Exam Pattern

The GRE paper pattern is divided into three main sections; Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The total time given to complete the exam is three hours and thirty minutes (3 hours 45 minutes = 225 mins) and 3 hours 45 minutes for the computer-based test.

How Long Is The GRE Test?

GRE quantitative reasoning lasts for 1 hour and 10 minutes (35 minutes for each section)

GRE verbal reasoning lasts for 1 hour (30 minutes for each section)

GRE analytical writing assessment lasts for 1 hour (30 minutes for each section)

Total 3 hours and 10 minutes

How Is GRE Score Calculated

As mentioned earlier, the score pattern has the raw and scaled metric, the raw score is the number of correct answers you give while the scaled score is the score after some basic arithmetic has been carried out. The aggregate GRE score is calculated on a scale of 260 to 340 and both Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections are measured out of 130-170 each. So, this means if you score 125 in Verbal Reasoning and 140 in Quantitative, your raw score comes up to 265. Though certain factors affect your GRE score report like:

  1. Speed in answering questions.
  2. Difficulty level of the questions
  3. Number is questions you answer.

How To Access Your GRE Test Score Report

The official GRE General Test scores are usually sent to your ETS account 10 to 15 days after your test date. You may also receive an email notification from ETS when they are available. What’s more, ETS will also send an official Institution Score Report to the score recipients you designated on test day at that time.

GRE Score Validity

The GRE score is always valid for five years.

When To Collect Your GRE Test Score Report

You’ll receive your official scores from GRE subject tests five weeks after the examination. You could also get a PDF copy on their official website.
